About Kids Writing

Helping Australian students become confident, capable writers.

Our Mission

Writing is one of the most important skills a child can develop — yet most students only get feedback when a teacher has time to mark their work. That can mean waiting days or weeks, by which point the teachable moment has passed.

Kids Writing was built to close that gap. We give students instant, detailed feedback on their writing — not a generic score, but specific, actionable guidance on exactly what to improve and how. Whether they're in Year 1 or Year 12, preparing for NAPLAN or practising for the HSC, every student deserves feedback that helps them grow.

How Our AI Marking Works

When a student submits their writing, our AI evaluates it against a structured rubric — the same kind of criteria framework that human markers use. For Australian exam modes (NAPLAN, HSC, VCE, Selective School), the AI uses the official marking criteria specific to each exam.

Students get rubric scores, sentence-level corrections, a strengths and weaknesses summary, and a prioritised improvement plan. It's like having a patient tutor available 24/7.

Important: AI feedback is a tool for learning, not a replacement for teachers. Scores are indicative and designed to guide improvement. We encourage students to use the feedback to understand their mistakes and develop their skills, not to have their work "fixed" by AI. Read our Terms of Use for our full academic integrity policy.

Built for Australian Schools

We're based in Australia and built this tool specifically for Australian students and families. Our exam marking modes are aligned with real Australian assessments:

  • NAPLAN — 10-criteria rubric matching the official writing assessment
  • NSW Selective School — 7 criteria based on the placement test writing component
  • HSC English — aligned with NESA Band 6 expectations
  • VCE English — aligned with VCAA criteria and A+ descriptors
  • IELTS Academic — official 4-criteria Writing Task 2 rubric

Our General marking mode covers the three core strands of the Australian Curriculum: English (ACARA V9) — Language (grammar, vocabulary, text structure), Literature (literary devices, narrative craft), and Literacy (writing for different purposes and audiences). Whether your child is writing a persuasive essay, a narrative, or an informative report, the feedback maps to what they're learning in school.

The grade level system (Year 1 through Year 12) adjusts the AI's tone and expectations — younger students receive warm, encouraging feedback while senior students receive rigorous, exam-focused analysis.

Privacy & Children's Safety

We take children's privacy seriously. Student essays are processed by AI solely to generate feedback — we do not use student work to train AI models. We comply with the Australian Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles.

Read our full Privacy Policy and Terms of Use for details on how we handle data, our AI disclaimer, and our academic integrity policy.
