About Kids Writing AI
Writing gets better through regular practice. We built a platform around that idea.
Our Mission
Writing improves through practice and feedback, not through a single marking session. Kids Writing AI gives students a reason to come back regularly: mark an essay, see where they fell short, work on that specific skill, revise and re-submit, and watch their scores move.
Most students only get feedback when their teacher has time to mark, which can mean waiting days or weeks. By then, the moment has passed. We give students instant, detailed feedback whenever they write, so every practice session counts.
For Students
Whether you're in Year 3 preparing for NAPLAN or Year 12 heading into the HSC, Kids Writing AI gives you everything you need to keep improving:
- AI Marking — instant rubric-based feedback on any essay, scored against NAPLAN, Selective, HSC, VCE, IELTS, or the Australian Curriculum
- Revision loop — revise and re-submit to track your score improving attempt by attempt
- Timed Practice Mode — write under real exam conditions with a countdown timer and instant marking when you submit
- AI Writing Tutor — a personal AI coach that knows your marking history and focuses on your weakest areas
- Lessons — structured writing lessons on sentence craft, vocabulary, text structure, persuasive techniques, and more
- Progress tracking — see how your scores move over time, broken down by criterion
- Blind spot detection — the platform tracks recurring errors across your essays and alerts you when the same weakness shows up three times in a row
For Educators
Teachers and tutors use Kids Writing AI to cut down marking time and get a clearer picture of where each student actually needs help:
- Class Assignments — set a writing task, share a join code, and see all submissions in one place. Students submit directly; you review and release results when ready.
- Teacher Review Workflow — override AI scores, add your own written feedback, and choose exactly when the student sees their result
- School-branded PDF Reports — download reports with your name, school, and feedback pre-filled. No Kids Writing branding — looks like it came from you
- Class Insights — a rubric-based breakdown across your class so you can see which criteria need the most work
- Lesson Plan Generator — ready-to-use lesson plans targeting specific writing criteria, aligned to the Teaching and Learning Cycle
- Slide Deck Generator — classroom-ready slide decks for any writing skill
- Report Card Comments — personalised report comments generated in seconds
- AI Teaching Assistant — ask it to analyse student data, draft parent messages, or create model essays
How the Marking Works
When a student submits their writing, our AI scores it against a structured rubric using the same criteria framework that human markers use. Each exam type has its own official criteria:
- NAPLAN — 10-criteria rubric matching the official writing assessment
- NSW Selective School — 7 criteria based on the placement test writing component
- VIC Selective School — aligned with VCEAI marking criteria
- HSC English — aligned with NESA Band 6 expectations
- VCE English — aligned with VCAA criteria and A+ descriptors
- IELTS Academic — the official 4-criteria Writing Task 2 rubric
- General — Australian Curriculum V9 (ACARA), adjusted for year level from Year 1 to Year 12
Students get rubric scores, sentence-level corrections, a summary of strengths and weaknesses, and a prioritised improvement plan. The tone and difficulty of the feedback is calibrated to year level, so a Year 4 student gets something very different to a Year 12 student sitting the HSC.
